Holy Angels – A Best Places To Work Finalist
Holy Angels has been named as one of 25 Best Places to Work - in the Charlotte Region - Medium Business category for 2010. During the Charlotte Business Journal’s annual luncheon, held at the Charlotte Convention Center, businesses were honored that have found innovative ways to keep their employees happy and engaged.
The work at Holy Angels is demanding physically and emotionally. It is important to include fun on a frequent basis in the daily schedule – and we do! There are regular social activities with staff and residents including monthly employee luncheons, Spirit Week, a Haunted Greenhouse, summer concerts and boat rides at Holy Angels Camp Hope.
Holy Angels is dedicated to recognizing the employees for their outstanding commitment to the mission of unconditional love and unlimited possibilities for the 75 children and adults with intellectual and physical disabilities who call Holy Angels home.
According to Regina Moody, Holy Angels President/CEO, “we work very hard to keep communication open between administration and our dedicated staff. . . through our intranet, emails and face to face meetings, especially during our monthly Employee Meal Days. We also offer our employees the opportunity to participate in a web based training program – “College of Direct Support” in order to enhance their knowledge in the field of intellectual disabilities and the certificate they receive is nationally recognized. Without our staff, Holy Angels would be unable to provide the quality program & services for our residents.”
Quantum Workplace, an independent human-resources survey company based in Wichita, Kan., conducted a detailed survey of Holy Angels employees and all of the over 200 nominated companies. A company must be nominated to be considered for this recognition.
In the confidential survey, one Holy Angels employee wrote, “Holy Angels is one of the best work places that I have ever worked. The residents always come first and that speaks highly of Holy Angels. Holy Angels is excellent in all areas and I am proud to be a part here in the mission.”
Another staff member responded, “We provide unconditional love in a fun, loving, living environment, where team work is important in providing top quality care. Each resident is treated with dignity as we help them to be as independent as possible.”
Over 200 businesses were nominated for this prestigious award. The top 25 companies in the small-business and midsized-company categories were recognized as Best Places to Work, and 10 businesses were honored in the large-company category.
Holy Angels was founded in 1956 by the Sisters of Mercy – beginning a much needed specialized service for children from Gaston, Lincoln, Cleveland and Mecklenburg counties as well as children from throughout the state of North Carolina. The private, nonprofit corporation located in Belmont, NC, provides residential services and innovative programs for children and adults with intellectual developmental disabilities, some of whom are medically fragile.
The CARF accredited programs include Holy Angels Morrow Center, the McAuley Residences (Fox Run ICF/MR group homes (three six-bed), Belhaven ICF/MR group home (15-bed), Moody Place ICF/MR group home (15-bed), four community group homes, Little Angels Child Development Center, Great Adventures, Camp Hope and Cherubs Café & Candy Bouquet (vocational program) in downtown Belmont.
